O Group was pleased to again support the TBCITB with its focus on industry development at a launch in Hobart November 16, 2009.

Business & Employment services the industry widely across Tasmania with apprenticeship services and State Manager Kim Beveridge encourages all clients in the sector to consider entering the award won in 2008 by Warren French. Mr French travelled overseas to Europe on the scholarship to inspect and report on sustainable construction techniques that are innovating the industry.

A national building and construction industry summit will be hosted in Tasmania next year thanks to a memorandum of understanding re-signed by the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry Training Board (TBCITB) and the Building and Construction Industry Council (BCIC) signed the MOU today (16 November) that will continue to foster innovation and workforce development in the Tasmanian industry
.
The MOU also ensures the continued presentation of a $10,000 building innovation award presented for the first time in 2008. TBCITB Chairman Bob Panitzki said a skills audit commissioned by the TBCITB / BCIC in 2007 had set the agenda for the new MOU.  BCIC Chairman John Pitt said innovation was the key to take the economy forward and was vitally important for the building and construction industry’s future.

“The introduction of the $10,000 Tasmanian Building and Construction Innovation Award was designed to promote a sustainable and competitive industry,” he said.  “Presented every two years, the $10,000 award is open to Tasmanian-owned and / or based building and construction industry companies.

“The criteria is simple – the work submitted must demonstrate business innovation, support outstanding achievement, highlight business value to the company in question and its customers and be industry best practice.”

Mr Pitt said entries would close on 11 December and entry details can be obtained by contacting Business Point on 1800 440 026 or
